The pull that doesn’t need a reason.
It’s not always a bad day that brings on the craving. Sometimes it’s just the clock hitting a certain time, or a particular chair, or the simple fact that it’s evening. The craving doesn’t need a reason to show up, and that’s exactly what makes it feel so hard to argue with. If you’ve noticed a pull toward a drink that arrives almost on schedule, you’re not alone, and it’s not a sign of weak willpower.
I’m Darren, and helping people understand and address this specific pattern — the craving that runs on a timetable rather than a reason — is one of the most common things I work with. The pull feels automatic because it is automatic. And that also means it can change.
If any of these sound familiar, you’re exactly the kind of person I work with every week:
“I’d been drinking daily for over a decade. Darren’s hypnotherapy gave me the tools and mindset to stop, I’ve now been alcohol-free for 8 months.”
“Darren helped me understand why I was drinking and showed me how to take back control. It’s the first time I’ve felt hopeful in years.”
“The sessions were professional, calm, and incredibly effective. I don’t miss drinking at all — I’m focused, clear-headed, and proud.”
A practical, personalised process built entirely around you.
We identify exactly when and why the craving shows up for you — a specific time, a particular routine, a feeling you’re managing — so the work is built around your actual pattern, not a generic one.
Using hypnotherapy, we work with the automatic pull directly, so the craving stops automatically arriving on schedule.
Recovery isn’t about constantly resisting the craving. It’s about the underlying pull genuinely easing, so the evening doesn’t need a drink attached to it.
Everything is confirmed by email and there’s nothing to prepare. You can choose in-person in Wokingham or online from home.
We talk through what’s been happening and what you’d like to feel different. No script, no judgement, no pressure.
Hypnotherapy is simply deep, guided relaxation. You stay fully aware and completely in control the whole time.
Every session is 90 minutes: 60 minutes of hypnosis and 30 minutes to talk through what’s changed and what’s next. Nothing is rushed.

Alcohol cravings that arrive on a timetable aren’t a sign of weakness — they’re a sign that a pattern has become automatic in your subconscious mind. The craving isn’t responding to a decision or a choice; it’s running on a loop that got established through repetition, often over months or years.
Understanding this is actually the starting point for change. Once the craving is recognised as an automatic pattern rather than an unavoidable need, it becomes something that can be worked with directly rather than simply resisted each time it arrives. If the craving is tied to stress or anxiety specifically, see Alcohol and Anxiety.
There’s an important difference between a habit and a craving. A habit is a behaviour you’ve defaulted to — it’s automatic, but it’s driven by routine rather than a felt urge. A craving carries a physical pull, a sense that something is genuinely needed, not just expected.
For many people who drink daily, what starts as a habit becomes a craving — the body and subconscious mind both begin anticipating the drink at a specific time, and the absence of it registers as something missing. This is why timing is often a more reliable signal than a specific trigger: the craving can arrive even on days when nothing has gone wrong. If drinking has become concentrated around weekends or social occasions, see Binge & Weekend Drinking.
Most approaches to cravings focus on managing them — distraction, substitution, willpower. These work by suppressing the craving in the moment, which is exhausting and requires constant effort. Hypnotherapy works differently: it addresses the underlying pattern generating the craving, rather than the craving itself.
Working at the level of the subconscious means the change happens where the craving originates, not just at the surface where it’s felt. For many clients this means the pull genuinely eases over time, rather than remaining something that has to be permanently resisted. See what the recovery timeline typically looks like.
The e-guides included in the 3-Session and 4-Session packages are built around what comes up in your specific sessions. For alcohol cravings, this typically means tools for the specific times and situations where the pull is strongest — the early evening routine, the moment after work, the particular chair or habit that’s become linked to drinking.
They’re designed to be used in the moment, when a session isn’t immediately available and the familiar pull arrives anyway. More on staying alcohol-free between and after sessions.
