Hypnotherapy for Panic Attacks in Wokingham & Online

Stop living in fear of the next attack. Calm your nervous system and feel safe in your body again.

If your heart races out of nowhere, your chest tightens, you can't catch your breath, and you live in dread of the next attack — you're not alone, and you're not in danger. Panic attacks can feel utterly terrifying, but they aren't harmful and they really can be overcome. I'm Darren, and helping people feel safe in their own body again is genuinely the part of my work I care about most. Panic is one of the most frightening forms anxiety can take, and you don't have to keep facing it on your own.

Panic attacks can feel terrifying — a sudden surge of fear, a pounding heart, tight chest, dizziness and the sense that something is seriously wrong. They can strike seemingly out of nowhere, and the fear of the next one often becomes its own problem.

What's actually happening is the fight-or-flight response firing when there's no real danger. It's frightening, but it isn't harmful — and it responds very well to help. The same alarm system that's learned to misfire can be gently recalibrated.

Many people who experience panic also live with underlying anxiety or the physical symptoms of anxiety — and calming the root pattern tends to ease it all. If yours surge around tests or assessments, I've written about exam-related panic and how it's calmed.

In this short video you'll learn why anxiety can feel so overwhelming even when part of you knows you're safe. Understanding how anxiety works is often the first step towards feeling calmer, more confident and back in control.

Hypnotherapy is calm, gentle and surprisingly practical — and you stay fully in control throughout. Together we recalibrate the response that triggers panic, so your body learns it's safe again. Here's what that can look like:

  • Reduce how often panic attacks happen
  • Lessen the intensity when they do
  • Break the fear-of-fear cycle
  • Feel calm and safe in your own body
  • Steady your breathing and heart rate
  • Move through your day without dread

New to this kind of therapy? Here's what clinical hypnotherapy is, in plain English — what it feels like, how it works and what to expect.

Alongside your sessions, you'll receive structured Client Support Guides designed to help you feel calm and in control between sessions — so progress keeps happening in everyday life, not just in the therapy room. Included exclusively with package options.

Frequently asked questions

The things people most often want to know before getting in touch.

What causes panic attacks?
Panic attacks happen when your fight-or-flight response fires when there's no real danger — often after a long stretch of stress, exhaustion or a learned fear pattern. Hypnotherapy works at that subconscious root rather than just managing the symptoms. If yours strike around meetings or presentations, my page on anxiety at work covers that pattern.
Can panic attacks happen for no reason?
It can genuinely feel that way, but there's almost always an underlying cause — a nervous system stuck on high alert even when nothing's obviously wrong. That's exactly the pattern we work to calm.
Can hypnotherapy stop panic attacks?
Yes. By recalibrating the subconscious response that sets them off, most clients find attacks become less frequent and less intense, often within 3–4 sessions.
How many sessions help panic attacks?
Most people feel meaningful relief within 3–4 sessions. Darren tailors the plan to how often and how severe your attacks are during your free consultation.
Can panic attacks come back?
Because the work addresses the root pattern rather than masking it, results tend to last. If a stressful patch ever stirs things up, a quick top-up session usually settles it again.
What's the difference between anxiety and panic attacks?
Anxiety is the ongoing background worry and tension; a panic attack is a sudden, intense surge of fear and physical sensations. They're closely linked — see anxiety hypnotherapy for the wider picture.
Can panic attacks be cured?
Many people become completely free of panic attacks once the underlying response is retrained. The goal is lasting change, not just learning to cope.
What should I do during a panic attack?
In the moment, slow your breathing with a long, gentle exhale — it signals safety to your body. Longer term we calm the pattern itself. If the physical sensations worry you, see anxiety symptoms.
