Successful on the outside, struggling in private.
You hold down a demanding career. Nobody at work suspects anything, and neither does most of your family. That’s exactly the problem, because looking fine on the outside has let this go on far longer than it might have otherwise. Performing well doesn’t mean the drinking isn’t costing you, and “grey area” drinking — more than you’d like but not what you picture when you hear the word “alcoholic” — is still worth taking seriously.
I spent over 25 years in the corporate world before training as a hypnotherapist. I understand the particular pressure, the specific way drinking becomes woven into how you unwind after a demanding day, and why asking for help can feel like a bigger risk than carrying on. It doesn’t have to stay that way, and addressing this discreetly, on your own terms, is entirely possible.
If any of these sound familiar, you’re exactly the kind of person I work with every week:
A practical, personalised process built entirely around you, and fully confidential.
We identify exactly what’s driving the drinking — stress, the specific pressures of your role, the way it’s become woven into how you unwind — so the work is built around your actual life, not a generic programme.
Using hypnotherapy, we work with the underlying pattern directly, in a way that fits around a demanding career and public-facing life.
Recovery here means finding a genuinely different way to handle stress and unwind — one that doesn’t carry the same risk.
Everything is confirmed by email and there’s nothing to prepare. Sessions are fully confidential, and online options mean discretion is straightforward. You can choose in-person in Wokingham or online from home.
We talk through what’s been happening and what you’d like to feel different. No script, no judgement, no pressure.
Hypnotherapy is simply deep, guided relaxation. You stay fully aware and completely in control the whole time.
Every session is 90 minutes: 60 minutes of hypnosis and 30 minutes to talk through what’s changed and what’s next. Nothing is rushed.
Ready to address this discreetly, on your own terms?

High-functioning alcoholism is defined by the gap between how someone appears externally and what’s actually happening with their drinking. The external competence — the career, the responsibilities, the relationships held together — doesn’t reflect the private pattern, and it often makes the pattern much harder to recognise or address.
Because the visible markers of “a drinking problem” aren’t present, it’s easy to keep telling yourself it isn’t that serious. The absence of obvious consequences becomes its own kind of evidence. See also: Alcohol Recovery Timeline for what change actually looks like once the work begins.
Grey area drinking sits between clearly social drinking and what most people picture as severe alcohol dependency. It’s more regular or heavier than you’d like, but it doesn’t look like the picture people have of an “alcoholic” — which is exactly why it tends to go unaddressed for so long. There’s no dramatic crisis, no obvious breakdown, nothing forcing the issue.
The “grey area” framing doesn’t mean it isn’t worth addressing. In many ways, working on it at this stage — before it becomes more entrenched — is exactly the right time. See also: Alcohol Cravings if the pull itself is the clearest part of the pattern for you.
Hypnotherapy works with the subconscious patterns driving the drinking — the automatic associations between stress, unwinding, and alcohol that have built up over time — rather than relying on willpower or conscious effort. This makes it particularly well-suited to a professional context, where conscious self-management is already stretched.
Sessions are fully confidential, and the online option means no one needs to know you’re working on this. Progress tends to be felt as a quieter pull, more space between a thought and acting on it, and a genuinely different relationship with the end of the working day. More on staying alcohol-free for what that shift looks like longer term.
Each session package includes dedicated e-guides designed to support the work in the days between sessions. For high-functioning alcoholism specifically, these cover the themes most likely to come up: managing work stress without drinking, the specific triggers tied to professional pressure, and tools for the moments when the pull arrives at the end of a difficult day.
They’re written for this specific work, not generic self-help material, and are designed to be used practically in the moment. The 3-session package includes three guides (worth £225 total); the 4-session package includes four (worth £300 total). Delivered digitally and yours to keep.
